For this limited-edition series, Matthew Fisher translates one of his most recurrent and characteristic icons within his oeuvre from the past decade – the graphic, foam-crested wave – into three-dimensional form using a medium entirely new to his practice: glass. As well as having a material connection to the sand that frequently features in minute detail in his seascapes, translating this icon into an object of permanence using an ancient medium speaks to Fisher’s rumination on timeless subject matters. The nature of glass hot-sculpted by hand means each edition is unique, each wave cresting and forming slightly differently.
