Q.1: You've been going strong for more than 20 years, where do you continue to find inspiration?
Inspiration can come from anywhere and continues to do so as long as you’re open and imaginative. Just in the last 12 months we’ve found inspiration in, to name just a few: Lord Nelson in Trafalgar Square, Baroque architecture, hip-hop, pink eyeshadow, mystical creatures, Dolly Parton, Cindy Sherman, Salvador Dali’s cat, Andy Warhol’s polaroids, Lisa Reihana’s installation at the current Venice Biennale, NASA, tree houses and Connan Mockasin.
Q.2: How do you juggle designing Apparel and Eyewear?
it’s not just the ready-to-wear and the eyewear. We also design fine jewellery, bags, shoes, fragrance and plenty more. It keeps me out of trouble. Plus, I have an awesome team!
Q.3: What’s the inspiration behind Karen Walker' first Men's Eyewear Collection?
It just felt like the right time to reassess the concept of modern masculinity. When we talk about what it is to be a man now, it’s such a fluid concept. And yet, there’s also this wonderful permanence. We wanted to capture that. To be subversive and classic at the same time
Q.4: What's next for the men's eyewear line?
Continuing to celebrate the Monumental Man.
Q.5: What was your first pair of sunglasses?
My first pair of sunglasses was in the dress-up box when I was six and they were bright orange and I loved them.
Q.6 What's your favorite pair of KW sunglasses?
Today I’m wearing my black Babou cat eyes. Tomorrow it’ll probably be back to my pale pink Disco Circus. My new reading glasses are Silver Marguerites and I love them!
Q.7 Visiting Hong Kong anytime soon?
Always look forward to visiting Hong Kong!
