Films Out in 2017 to Be Excited About

Last year’s releases were great but left a lot to be desired. From cheeky Deadpool, to the (somewhat of a) let-down Suicide Squad and of course to the mind blowing Star Wars’ Rogue One! 2017 will be the best year for cinema yet as the film industry is bringing highly anticipated remakes, brand-new features as well as final instalments for series.

A Dog’s Purpose (January, 2017)

This movie about a devoted dog who discovers the meaning of its own existence by showing humans how to laugh and love over the course of several lifetimes will tug at heart strings whether you’re a dog lover or not.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure (February, 2017)


The final part to James Dashner’s Maze Runner Trilogy, Thomas searches for the cure to help those infected by the vicious disease that has been around for as long as they can remember.

The Divergent Series: Ascendant (March, 2017)

Part 2 to the final book of Veronica Roth’s Trilogy, Allegiant, Beatrice Prior and Tobias Eaton fight to end the Bureau of Genetic Welfare's authoritarian reign over the United States.


Kong: Skull Island (March, 2017)

This year, Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, is rebooting the famous franchise featuring Tom Hiddleston as one of the explorers who encounters the gigantic ape on an unchartered island in the Pacific Ocean.

Beauty and The Beast (March, 2017)

The most anticipated live action Disney Princess movie is just right around the corner! Starring Emma Watson, former witch at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy, is turning a new page in her book. Her portrayal of Belle will certainly be exciting to see, and have you heard Emma sing?!

Ghost In The Shell (March, 2017)

Based of a Japanese media franchise written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow and published as a seinen manga series of the same name, this is the tale of special ops Major (Scarlett Johansson), a one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid who leads an elite task force devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists. Some scenes were filmed in Hong Kong, around the Jordan area.

Logan (March, 2017) 

The year is 2024, mutant births are in decline with no explanation whatsoever. A “government-type” operation is turning mutant children into killing machines. Logan, otherwise known as Wolverine, emerges as a mentor to a mutant girl, who has two claws instead of his three.

Fast 8 (April, 2017)


For those still reeling from the loss of Paul Walker, Fast 8 from the franchise is keeping his memory alive. Now that Dom (Vin Diesel) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) are on their honeymoon, Brian and Mia have retired from the game, the team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman seduces Dom back into a world of crime that he can't escape, the crew will face trials that will test them like never before.

Guardians of The Galaxy: Vol 2 (April, 2017)

Star Lord is back! Set two months after the first film, the Guardians of the Galaxy travel through space and time in finding Peter Quill’s father all while going through the trials and tribulations of keeping their new family together.

Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (May, 2017)

Feast into an all-new adventure as Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds the stumbles upon an even stronger group of deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, Captain Salazar, who escaped from the Devil's Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea.

Baywatch (May, 2017)

Lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson) and his new recruit (Zac Efron) uncover a criminal plot that threatens the future of the bay. We can’t wait for this one as it’s been 16 years since the original TV series of Baywatch has ended!

Speed, I am speed. That’s right; Lighting McQueen is finally back and he enlists his new friend as a technician to help him compete against a new generation of racers.

Despicable Me 3 (June, 2017)

BANANA! Yes, we speak minion. The third edition to the Despicable Me franchise finds Gru (Steve Carell) and his wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig) trying to stop former '80s child star Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker) from achieving world domination.

Wonder Woman (June, 2017)

Who wouldn’t be obsessed with Gal Gadot? She’s perfect! In her new upcoming movie Wonder Woman, she leaves her all-female island, discovering her full powers and true destiny while fighting alongside soldiers during World War I.

Spiderman Homecoming (July, 2017)

After his sojourn into superhero-ism with the Avengers, a young Peter Parker (Tom Holland) returns home to Aunt May. Under the surveillance of mentor Tony Stark, Parker starts to embrace his new identity as Spider-Man. Peter must put his powers to the test when the evil Vulture emerges to threaten everything that he holds dear.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (July, 2017)

In the 28th century, special operatives Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (mega-babe Cara Delevingne) maintain order throughout the universe for the government of the human territories. The pair embark on a mission to Alpha, an intergalactic city where diverse species share their technology and resources. The ever-expanding city is also home to evil forces that may endanger the future of mankind.


Thor: Ragnarok (October, 2017)

Did someone say Chris Hemsworth? (heart eye emoji). In this film, Thor, the Hulk and Doctor Strange join forces to face off against enemies, both familiar and new.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle (October, 2017) 

In this sequel, Brits Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Merlin (Mark Strong) travel to the United States to join forces with their fellow American spies.

Jumanji (December, 2017)

In this Jumanji reboot, four teenagers are sucked into Jumanji's world and to survive they must play as characters from the game. Spencer becomes a brave explorer (Dwayne Johnson); Fridge becomes a tiny genius (Kevin Hart); Bethany becomes a bookworm professor (Jack Black); and Martha becomes an amazonian warrior (Karen Gillan). To finish the game and return to the real world, they'll have to start seeing things in an entirely different way.


Star Wars: Episode 8 (December, 2017) 

Though the backstory of this 8th episode hasn’t been officially released yet, it’ll be worth the wait. We can’t wait to see what happened after that awkward stare-off between Rey and Luke!
