Clockenflap Is Back with More for More

Posted on November 23 2016

The annual Clockenflap music and arts festival is back at Central Harbourfront this year, running from November 25-27. Clockenflap has always been about delivering a depth and diversity of experiences, and 2016 promises to be the biggest Clockenflap yet, with more music and arts than ever before.

The enormous site for this year features three main live band stages, two electronic music stages, two theatre venues, two immersive entertainment spaces, as well as two expansive grassy areas to enjoy the chilled-out vibe.

This year’s live artists will be performing across three stages: Harbourflap stage, FWD stage, and KEF stage. The incredibly diverse music lineup has been been released, and it includes a wide variety of artists and genres. There are many new faces to Clockenflap this year from around the world, with notable international artists including:

- M.I.A. from UK, regarded as one of the most influential female rappers
- British trio London Grammar, performing in their only Asian show of the year
- The Chemical Brothers from UK, who are leaders in the British electronica scene
- Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós from Reykjavík

Artists and performances from Asia are also well represented, featuring:

- No Party For Cao Dong, a Taiwanese alternative rock band new to Clockenflap
- Local singer-songwriter Ellen Loo making her return to the festival stage
- South Korean indie quartet hyukoh from Seoul
- SEKAI NO OWAR, Japanese rock’s rising band from Tokyo

Joining this year’s music lineup are also international legends and up-and-coming stars:

    - The Sugarhill Gang from US had the first top 40 rap single on Billboard
    - Jamaican mento band The Jolly Boys bring their signature folk and reggae
    - Talented singer-songwriter Yuna from Malaysia
    - UK based post-dubstep mixer SBTRKT with their exclusive Clockenflap set

There will also be two electronic music stages providing party vibes from day to night, as well as a silent disco for dancing like nobody’s watching!

Besides music, Clockenflap will once again be home to Club Minky, a velvet-clad performance venue featuring a handpicked selection of world class theatre, cabaret, comedy, and circus. Club Minky has been a favourite among the Clockenflap faithful, and this year’s space is twice that of last year’s iteration. The programme will be repeated on all three days, so there is an opportunity to catch all the different shows at various times.

Clockenflap 2016 will also feature a wealth of diverse arts for all to experience. The WARP Black Box has a new and groundbreaking 360° virtual reality setup dubbed In The Eyes Of The Animals (ITEOTA), enabling festivalgoers to immerse themselves through the eyes of distinctive animals and see the world from an entirely different perspective. Hanson Robotics will also bring their latest and most advanced robot Sophia to meet everyone. Sophia is always evolving, learning from its interactions with humans, so it is a great opportunity to experience the fascinating future of robotics at the festival.

When a break is needed, festivalgoers can grab a drink at the many bars around the venue. There will also be an extensive selection of food at the Food Bazaar and Kuuchi café picnic area to cater to different tastes, featuring cuisines ranging from Asian to European to South American. There will also be a Craft Market featuring the finest local homemade arts and crafts for sale.

Future Fields and the Acorn Stage will feature family-friendly attractions throughout the day so that everyone can get involved in the fun. During or at the end of the day, wind down and relax on the grass fields and take in the good vibes as well as the views of the city’s iconic skyline. Don’t miss out on this annual event and we hope to see you there!
