Positioning itself in the intersection of art, fashion, culture, and fun, MEDICOM TOY has released 4 new 1000% BE@RBRICKs — this time in collaboration for new versions with artists mika ninagawa, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Jackson Pollock Studio. Each piece boasts lively patterns in a variety of layouts, ensuring each collaboration pays homage to the original artist.
A recognized photographer and film director, Ninagawa is known for her vibrant, colored photographs as well as her 2010 film debut, Helter Skelter. She is the recipient of prestigious awards such as the Kimura Ihei Photography Award as well as the member of the organizing committee of the Tokyo 2020. This second version of the mika ninagawa BE@RBRICK print is based on the Japanese photographer's signature work: “gold fish."
A New York artist who rose to prominence in the 80s, Jean-Michel Basquiat started out as a graffiti artist but soon sold paintings that were worth tens of millions of dollars. Till this day, his painting style, which is compiled of obsessive scribbling, elusive symbols, and mask-and-skull imagery is instantly recognizable. A tribute to the late artist, this BE@RBRICK features an all-over print of his famous artwork “Untitled (Jackson)," with his signature added as a personal touch.
MEDICOM TOY and Keith Haring Foundation release a remix of the “Dancing People” piece — this time using Magenta instead of the original white edition. Painting with artistic and childlike exuberance, Haring rose to prominence in the early 1980s with his graffiti drawings made in the streets of New York City. Combining the appeal of cartoons, he developed a distinct pop-graffiti aesthetic centered on bold outlines against rhythmic spread of imagery like that of people, symbols, and fictional characters.
Lastly, a major player in abstract expressionism, American painter and artist Jackson Pollock began his quest towards abstraction in the early 1940s — a time known as his “drip period.” To continue his legacy and passion in artistic experimentation, MEDICOM TOY and Jackson Pollock studio team up for a limited edition piece that wears a complete suit of Pollock’s instantly recognizable print from head to paw.
